What to expect

What to expect

respectful and skilled

We strive to hold space for your birth to safely unfold as it's meant to. We prioritize patience as you labor, but if we determine that labor is not progressing normally, or if there is a concern for safety and/or well-being, we will always share the information with you and together decide on the best plan of action.

After your baby is born, we will stay in your home for a few hours making sure you and your baby are stable, and that your space is cleaned and reset. We'll help get everyone fed and tucked in for a much-deserved rest, then we'll check back in with a phone call, and remain on-call for any concerns. We'll come back to your house on the first or second day for another full evaluation of you and your baby, and to file your birth certificate. We'll also make a plan for an office visit at 2 weeks, and again at 6 weeks.

postpartum

comfortable and calm

In the postpartum stage, both immediately and over time, the significance of your choices will crystallize. Every aspect of community midwifery care is such high quality, but something about being in the same space to both give birth and to begin your relationship with your new baby is particularly poignant.

With how confusing health care costs can be, we strive to offer complete transparency. Our fee includes full midwifery services for prenatal care, birth, and postpartum care. A 10% non-refundable deposit of $750 will be due at the first scheduled prenatal visit and will secure your spot on our calendar. The remainder of the fee must be paid in full by 37 weeks, when we go on-call for your birth. We accept direct deposit, cash, check, and credit card (a service charge, usually 3-4%, will be added by the credit card processing company).

Additional Fees
The following services are not included in our fee, and may be covered by insurance.
    - lab processing
    - diagnostic ultrasound, such as the recommended fetal anatomy scan at 20 weeks
    - prescription medications
    - appointments with other healthcare providers as necessary

Insurance and Medicaid
We are not able to accept Medicaid at this time. We do accept private insurance, but for reimbursement purposes only. Because every insurance plan has different benefits and different pay schedules, we collect our fees upfront and partner with home birth billing specialists who work directly with our clients to determine their insurance benefits and submit a claim after their birth to get back the best possible reimbursement. Visit this website, Birth Professional Billing, to learn more about our home birth billing specialists.

Healthcare Sharing Plans
We are happy to invoice your healthcare sharing plan, or to provide a receipt for you to receive reimbursement from your healthcare sharing plan. Our home birth billing specialists are also able to help with these plans.

Payment Plans and Discounts
We provide monthly invoices, and payment plans are available. We offer a 10% discounted fee for active duty military members and their families.

"Elizabeth added so much value and support to my entire birth experience. She always brought such a high level of encouragement, professionalism, and gentleness that made me feel safe and confident during my prenatal appointments. During my birth, she was an incredible, strong pillar of support (plus she did an amazing job on the sutures I needed). Her beautiful, approachable, positive, and intelligent presence is extremely empowering to me as a mama and woman. I highly recommend Elizabeth as a midwife. She is a precious part of our local natural birth community!"
